NaNoWriMo 2011

I first participated in National Novel Writing Month in 2008, winning my first try. I also won in 2009, but not in 2010. This year I am trying my luck again, and my goal is not the usual 50k words for the month, but to actually finish a first draft of the novel I tried to write last year.

This novel is currently titled Do Not Resuscitate, though the longer I plan this beast with that as its title the more I want a new title. Woe!

It's a young adult story about a fifteen year old white boy named Andrew and two reapers, called Hesperi: a 20-something Chinese-American named Lorena and a 15 (when she died) year old 1/2 Native American 1/2 white girl named Tori. The story also focuses on white girl Jerry, who is the only main character who is alive throughout the course of the novel.

Andrew is murdered by a man with demonic eyes, and as a newly dead ghost he accidentally takes over Jerry's body when she nearly drowns and is resuscitated by rescue breathing. Because of this, he is arrested by the Afterworld police known as Hesperi, and taken to the Afterworld nation called Duat.

And it keeps going downhill from there!

It's an epic adventure with both the living world and the realm of the dead at stake. Andrew and his friends must unravel a conspiracy that will shake the very foundations of the world, and effect every person on it, alive or dead.

So that's that! It is day 6 and I am at nearly 20k words. Hopefully at this rate I will reach my goal by the end of November!

In other news, if you are a fan of anime or of fairy tales, or of just really awesome things of tear-jerking awesomeness, go check out the wonderful anime Natsume's Book of Friends (Natsume Yuujinchou), which is a current favorite of mine. It can be found streaming free (and legal!) at CrunchyRoll.com! Haha, I wish I'd just gotten paid to do that. Alas, I am just very enthusiastic about this anime!
