There are some links here about atheism, feminism, films, and more!
We'll start out happy!-ish with some film and TV reviews and articles.
This first one, from Overthinking It, is about Modern Family--and that, despite the title, the show isn't really that modern. Follow the link!
Here's Win Ben Stein's Mind, Roger Ebert's lovely review (for a while ago) of Ben Stein's load of shit, eXpelled. EXpelled is a film about institutionalized stupidity that people want to be taught in schools as science. Ebert responds accordingly.
Also kinda old, and also from Ebert, his hilarious review of ARMAGEDDON!
Muslims in their garb. Because some people have irrational, stupid fears. (I don't fear muslims. I just think gods don't exist XD. There's criticism of religion, and then there's outright stupidity. Discriminating against muslims just because they "look different" is stupid.)
Here is a great dissection of why TSA dissent has suddenly gotten popular. Because women, PoC, those with disabilities such as prosthetics, and others have had issues with them for the last ten years. You can also tell why this is suddenly a white man's issue because the new slogan for TSA dissent is "don't touch my junk." While I think there are a lot of factors contributing, I also think this is a major one.
And here is Jon Stewart taking on McCain's ever-stalling stance on DADT. DADT should be gone NOW. And I do not think there is a single valid reason why it should stay that is not either homophobic or apologetic and enabling of homophobia.
Greta Christina, a lovely lesbian and atheist blogger, takes on the issue of why atheists can't win when we argue with theists.
A GREAT review of Glee's episode "Grilled Cheesus," which tackled the issue of atheism and the existence of incredibly pushy theists (and that atheists are the better people--though that's not what they were trying to say, i think).
Here's a reminder that there is no such thing as a fundamentalist atheist. We don't have dogma, organized religion, tenants, traditions, holidays etc. We are not a religion.
These two Gallup polls are depressing. The majority of USA citizens are so ignorant of science it fills me with despair.
How Your Playboy Centerfold Sausage is Made, via Jezebel. (NSFW--nekkid ladies). Because even the fantasy women are fantasies.
Dear Pixar, From All The Girls With Band-Aids On Their Knees. I can't wait for The Bear and the Bow, and I think their princess will be genius. But really? It just reinforces the idea of girls being princesses--even if she decides to be an archer, it still says girls are princesses--and that they will shirk their responsibilities to their country or not have them at all. The only person I fully trust to make princesses is Miyazaki Hayao--they actually do shit for their country and are integral in the politics and action. This puts pressure on you, Pixar. DON'T FUCK UP YOUR FIRST FEMALE LEAD, OKAYS?
Step Up and Step Back, On the Role of Men in Feminist Spaces. Because feminism should not be a war between the sexes, but if you are a male feminist, I will not bow to your authority just because you're a super-competent man, your majesty. This is not Wut about teh menz? This is feminism. And Gender inequality is everyone's issue, yes, but men get most of the attention anyway. Let us have our spaces.
And Reasoning With Vampires is the best blog ever made. Ever.
*Edited a few minutes after posting to add more links--nothing else was edited.*
how do you cut your text and put the 'read more' link?
ReplyDeletenice blog :-)
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhen you create a new post there is a little icon that says "insert jump break" and looks like a sheet of paper broken in half with jagged edges. It appears in your post as a line, which becomes the "read more" link when you publish to your blog! It's soooo handy :). Especially if you talk way to much like I do!
thank you! i will try it in my next post :) oh btw, i really think you should go to the Argentine side if you decide to go to patagonia... ok, maybe to both sides ;P
